What’s the difference between a Chiropodist and a Podiatrist?
In the UK Podiatry is simply the new name for Chiropody. The name was changed to Podiatry in 1993 as its the international recognised name for a foot specialist and also as its slightly more appropriate; ‘Podiatry’ refers just to the feet while ‘Chiropody refers to both feet and hands.
It’s not just the name that has changed though. Podiatry is a constantly evolving profession, the extensive training given to students over the 3 or 4 years of their full time course and the continuing education after graduation enable Podiatrists to treat a vast array of foot and lower limb problems. Along with the most obvious treatments for corns and hard skin, specialties exist within the profession for almost any lower limb problem.
Is it the same as a pedicure?
Podiatry/Chiropody is a medical treatment, not a cosmetic service. After treatment however the feet will often look so much better, and feel more comfortable as well.
Do I need to be referred?
You do not need any type referral from your GP to seek a private Chiropody/Podiatry Appointment.
I have Diabetes, is it ok to come?
Yes, It is very important for people with Diabetes to have their feet checked regularly by a Podiatrist to ensure all remains well. Many people with diabetes have no problems with their feet and with good care and common sense precautions they can continue to enjoy “good foot health.
How long will my Appointment last?
This really does depend on the foot problems the patient presents with. Each appointment slot is 1/2 hour (30mins) Long.
Do you offer free NHS treatment?
No, we do not offer free NHS treatment, however we do comply with the standards health care insurance requires such as HCPC registration.
Will it hurt?
Generally chiropody does not hurt. Many patients actually enjoy their treatment! However some people have a lower pain threshold than others, and if you have a condition which is already painful, the treatment may be uncomfortable. Although after the treatment your feet shall be much more comfortable and pain free than they were before.
Will it tickle?
We are trained to deal with feet in a way, which is firm and professional. Even people with extremely sensitive feet find the treatment comfortable.

What is HCPC?
The HCPC, as it is also known, is a regulator of health professionals. They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards for training skills, behaviour and health in the area of medicine or health care the health professional practices in.
